Rev. Dr. Vaughan Hayden
Rev. Dr. Vaughan Hayden is a native of Youngstown, Ohio, but moved to Maryland while still a teenager. After attending school at Drexel University and UMBC for engineering, he answered the call to ministry and graduated with highest honors from Lancaster Bible College for Biblical studies.
He began serving as a United Methodist pastor at Hopewell in Port Deposit, MD in 2002 while his wife Tammy prepared to home-school their two boys, Samuel and Joseph. He also attended Evangelical Seminary in Myerstown, PA. After graduating Summa Cum Laude with two Masters Degrees, an MDiv and an MAR in Systematic and Historical Theology, he was provisionally ordained in 2007, and fully ordained in the Peninsula-Delaware Conference in 2010.
After having served churches in MD, and Delaware, he received his Doctorate of Ministry in Church Leadership Excellence from Wesley Seminary in 2018 focusing on helping struggling churches find their purpose. Pastor Hayden is known for passionate sermons and a deep love for helping people know Jesus. He believes it is his calling to help others understand the new life that Jesus came to give, full of grace and peace.
He is recently widowed as his wife of 21 years, Tammy died suddenly in January. Samuel will be away at college this fall, but Joseph will be commuting and you may see him around. In his spare time, Pastor Hayden loves watching football, and writing and playing music. He is excited about the ministry of Mt. Zion and looks forward to being a part of this community to see what God is doing.
